Late to the party, but 35F is pretty great tbh. Good luck with whatever your decision, but I highly recommend you think about 35N. I was a computer science major (about to start back to finally finish my degree) who worked at Hewlett-Packard Packard before enlisting, and my MOS choice was something I’ve never regretted. It’s a bunch of ex special forces and rangers and shit, lots of great training.įinally, it’s worth noting that when I went through AIT, people who failed were sent to Arizona to become a 35F □ Some states like Texas have ground recon teams where this is all they do for their job. If you get a good mission request and are able to gather good info, it’s a LOT of fun and makes you feel like a badass. Infil in the middle of the night, set up hide sights, observe target for hours, and exfil back out without being seen. If your state has a ground recon team, you have the option to experience the real hooah shit. You will spend most of your days doing analytical work for your assigned law enforcement agency. My state selects ONLY MPs and 35 series army side and the same equivalent air side. There is also the SOT-B team which does the analytical work in support for them.Īs for counter drug specifically, I will tell you that being a 35 anything is useful. They train and deploy alongside the green berets and do the tactical part of their job at the highest level. 35N/P are the only intel MOS with a setup like what’s called a SOT-A team. If you want to be with the best of the best and give yourself to real missions, signals intelligence is the way to go thanks to special forces groups. Whereas 35N was just given an E6 and soon E7 slot, plus the warrant route if you choose someday. Promotions are always big competitions for them. Half of ours just got wiped out and either sent to reclass or sit in excess. Basically if it sends a signal, it’s our domain.Īlso, 35F is being majorly downgraded in the brigade combat team. A 35N does emplacement, collection, analysis, and dissemination of signals intelligence. I’m sure there will be some sour-puss 35Fs here who disagree, but that’s literally their job when it comes down to it. They take the intel that’s collected by other intel MOSs and piece it together to look pretty for the commander. There are specific strategic and tactical career paths you can take for it. I am a 35N who has been with the counter drug program for 3 years now.ģ5N is an awesome MOS for both field work and analytical work. I feel like I’m uniquely qualified to answer this just because you mentioned interest in counter drug operations. Out of all the 35 series which one has the best future outlook in the Guard or with civilian employers? Since 35L is moving out of the Guard, are there any other MOS’s that have opportunities to work closely with agencies/police or is it worth going to the Reserves for that MOS? Is 35F as bad as people make it out to be or can it set you up to be a good applicant for government work?ĭo opportunities exist for 35F’s to work with government agencies or police? For example, I’ve heard of 35L/35M’s working with agencies/police in counter drug work and that sounds like an awesome time. I want to do something that has a good mix of analytical and field work. I was originally planning on going 35L but from other posts on here I found that MOS is moving mostly to the Reserves. I also have aspirations of using the TS clearance and training to apply to government agencies or other contract positions after some time and experience in the Guard. I’m drawn towards the 35 series because it seems very interesting and I might be able to leverage some of my work experience. I’m 31 with a bachelors and almost a decade as a software engineer and now a team lead. That is in stark contrast to everything that I’ve read on here from others but I also try to take everything that I read on Reddit with a grain of salt.Ī little background on me and my situation. It just so happens to be that he was previously a 35M and 35F and said that he loved the 35F MOS. I was talking with a recruiter/retention guy about joining and going for 35L (Counterintelligence) but he was advising that 35F might be a better fit.
